FAQ

  • What is the best time of year to take senior portraits?

Each high school has its own unique deadlines for senior portraits, so it's crucial to be aware of your school's specific timeline. Kim Graves Photography recommends scheduling your senior session at least 3-4 weeks before your school's deadline to allow ample time for potential rescheduling due to weather or emergencies, as well as for editing and delivery of your images.

Senior sessions in Colorado, where we experience distinct seasons, it's important to consider the time of year when booking your senior session. The optimal times for scheduling are from May through early Fall when the landscape is vibrant. From mid-October to early April, the landscape tends to be dormant. For those seeking lush green fields, late spring and summer are ideal, while early fall offers stunning golden fields.

  • What senior portrait sessions does Kim Graves Photography offer?

At Kim Graves Photography, we present two comprehensive packages tailored for senior portrait sessions: The Jr Varsity Senior Package and the Varsity Senior Package.

    Jr Varsity Senior Package:

Enjoy an all-inclusive experience featuring approximately 60 minutes of photography, one location, outfit changes, and the delivery of 50 edited images in a user-friendly online gallery. Your gallery will be provided 2-3 weeks after your senior session.

    Varsity Senior Package:

Step up to our Varsity Package, offering approximately two hours of photography, two locations, on-location outfit changes, and the delivery of 70 edited images in an accessible online gallery. You can expect your gallery within 2-3 weeks of your senior session.

  • Does Kim Graves Photography offer hair and makeup?

At Kim Graves Photography, her style is deeply rooted in natural aesthetics. Kim Graves Photography does not utilize studios or studio equipment, nor do we offer hair and makeup services. However, Kim Graves is dedicated to ensuring her seniors have access to top-tier services. She maintains a list of vetted vendors for hair and makeup, whom we can confidently refer our clients to.

  • Can my senior have outfit changes?

At Kim Graves Photography, we believe in providing flexibility and convenience during your senior session. There's no limit on outfit changes during your on-location photography session. However, due to Colorado's windy conditions and trail restrictions, we don't utilize pop-up tents. Instead, we encourage seniors to bring easily changeable outfits and we provide a sheet for privacy when changing.

While we encourage personal style expression, we advise limiting outfit changes to one to two for the Jr Varsity Package and two to three for the Senior Varsity Package. This recommendation is based on considerations of time and lighting conditions on location. With a focus on natural aesthetics, we find that simplicity often enhances the beauty of our outdoor settings.

  • What time of day do we schedule senior sessions?

We always aim to do Senior Sessions an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. This is referred to as Golden Hour. Golden Hour provides the best light for our session.

I am currently scheduling sessions for the 2024 calendar year, which means your session could be as soon as next week or as far out as 11 months from now. In December golden hour could be as early as 3:15 PM, while in July, it might extend to as late as 7:00 PM.

Upon scheduling, I'll provide an approximate time, a couple of weeks before the session, I'll contact you to confirm the exact time. Punctuality is key for photography sessions as the sun moves swiftly, and we aim to capture the best light possible. I recommend aiming to be 15 minutes early to allow for some flexibility and ensure a smooth start to the session.
