FAQ

  • What to expect from a Family Session?

At Kim Graves Photography, our family sessions are designed to capture the essence and dynamics of your unique family bond. During your session, you can expect a relaxed and enjoyable experience where we focus on creating authentic moments and genuine connections.

We'll work together to choose a beautiful outdoor location that reflects your family's personality and style. Once on location, we'll guide you through natural posed and unposed interactions, encouraging genuine smiles and laughter.

Our goal is to capture a variety of candid and posed shots that showcase the love and connection within your family. Whether it's a playful moment between siblings, a tender embrace between parents, or a fun family activity, we'll ensure that your session reflects the true essence of your family.

After the session, you can look forward to receiving a curated selection of edited images that beautifully tell the story of your family. These images will be delivered in an easy-to-use online gallery, where you can view, share, and cherish your memories for years to come.

  • What is the Family Questionnaire?

Now that you've secured a spot on my calendar, we'll begin gearing up for our photography session.

First up, I'll be sending you a family questionnaire. This questionnaire serves as a valuable tool for me to familiarize myself with your family. By delving into the details, I can customize our photography session to authentically reflect your family story. I genuinely enjoy learning about you and your little ones, so feel free to provide as much or as little information as you're comfortable with. Naturally, the more insights I have, the better I can tailor our sessions to encapsulate the essence of your unique family narrative.

  • Where will we go for our Family Session?

Considering the location for your family photography session is a crucial step. Each location presents a unique tapestry and style, offering diverse scenery such as rolling hills, mountain views, streams, reservoirs, and expansive golden grass plains. Moreover, locations in Colorado showcase varying landscapes across Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.

During the questionnaire process, I'll inquire about the type of location you have in mind. Based on your preferences, your family's ages and personalities, and the current season, I'll provide guidance on which location would best suit your photography session.

Whether it's a spot closer to your home or a more distant one, I aim to assist you in choosing the perfect setting.

  • What should we wear to a Family Session?

I frequently receive inquiries about wardrobe planning for family photography sessions. My initial suggestion is to opt for a neutral palette in your clothing choices. Neutrals encompass shades like creams, grays, blues, blacks, and even denim. Utilize platforms like Pinterest for excellent inspiration when deciding on your family's wardrobe.

When planning, consider the season and location. For instance, if we'll be traversing fields extensively, high heels might pose challenges, and stylish yet functional boots can be an excellent choice. In colder weather, layering becomes important, and investing in a photogenic coat can add a touch of elegance, particularly during Colorado's late Fall through late Spring.

  • What time of day do we meet for our Family Session?

We always aiI to do Family Sessions 1 hour to 1 1/2 before sunset. This is referred to as Golden Hour. Golden Hour provides the best light for our session.

I am currently scheduling sessions for the 2024 calendar year, which means your session could be as soon as next week or as far out as 11 months from now. In December golden hour could be as early as 3:15 PM, while in July, it might extend to as late as 7:00 PM.

Upon scheduling, I'll provide an approximate time, but a couple of weeks before the session, I'll contact you to confirm the exact time. Punctuality is key for photography sessions as the sun moves swiftly, and we aim to capture the best light possible. I recommend aiming to be 15 minutes early to allow for some flexibility and ensure a smooth start to the session.

  • How long is a Family Session?

All family photography sessions are approximately 60 minutes. I do not work by the timeframe - I work till I am confident we captured the images that show the love and joy between your family. This can be as early as 30 minutes in or over 60 minutes. Often the timeframe is dependent on ages of family members and number of family members.

  • What photographs can I expect?

Each session is designed to be enjoyable and dynamic. While I aim to tailor each family session uniquely, I follow a streamlined workflow that is both easy and comfortable for your family.

By the end of the session, you can expect to have a variety of specific photographs, including traditional poses with all family members together, capturing everyone looking at the camera. Additionally, there will be authentic images of the family interacting and photographs of moments between gently guided poses.  Once we have gotten our family group portraits I focus on individual portraits of the children and group portraits of the children.  I bring the parents in for snapshots of the kiddos with mom and dad. Of course, we won't forget to capture moments of mom and dad together!

  • When and how will I receive my family photographs?

After your family photography session concludes, your photos join a queue of sessions awaiting editing. Drawing on my background as a photography editor, I approach each image with meticulous attention. When you choose me as your photographer, you benefit from someone who takes pride in delivering images that receive close and detailed consideration.

To ensure your gallery is perfect and ready for printing, the average editing time per gallery is 2-3 weeks. During peak seasons, this may extend closer to 3 weeks, although I make every effort to maintain a swift turnaround.

All images are conveniently delivered through an easy-to-use online gallery. You'll have the option to download all your images and share the gallery with family and friends. Additionally, you can order prints directly from my printer through your gallery!

  • Where can I purchase prints? Do you offer albums?

Make sure to bring your photographs to life by printing them! Once you've received your gallery, select your favorite images and consider having them printed. Displaying these photos in your home is a meaningful way to constantly remind your kiddos of their importance. Personally, I love adorning my own house with images of my children.

To streamline the print ordering process, I've made it incredibly easy for you. Simply order prints directly from my recommended printer within your gallery! The same printer that I endorse and provide for your convenience is the one I trust for printing my own family portraits. Their quality is exceptional, and their color calibration aligns seamlessly with my editing software.

Beginning in 2024 all full priced (non-discounted sessions) will receive a complimentary album. Of course you can purchase additional albums and even canvases!
