52 Week Project

Low Light Image for Hellostory Teller Monthly Competition - Miss Lucy Waiting for Kiddos

This year, I've embarked on an exciting journey by joining the 52 Clicks 2024 Weekly Project led by Hello Storyteller instructor Angie Mahlke. You've heard me talk about it endlessly—I'm in LOVE with documenting my family. It's the very reason I turned to photography professionally; it's my ultimate WHY. There's nothing quite like capturing beautiful moments of my kiddos, my husband, and our wonderful pets as we navigate through our daily adventures. And trust me, I'll keep talking about it over and over again...

One of the main reasons I immerse myself in projects like 52 Clicks is because they push me to grow as a photographer, which, in turn, greatly benefits me personally and professionally. Plus, this inspires my creativity when it comes to photographing my own family.

Here's a tip I often share with fellow moms and dads who are eager to start documenting their own families: join a community of like-minded individuals because...

Golf Driving Range - Weekly Theme Motion

Firstly, you'll motivate each other.

This past week, I was feeling a bit low on energy and, honestly, in a bit of a creative rut. As a result, my images were lacking that spark—I'll be the first to admit it. However, seeing so many stunning images from other photographer parents lit a fire under me and motivated me to step up my game this week.

Motion - a little blur in his hands - Gosh I love looking at that man. ;-)

Secondly, these groups often structure their projects around weekly or monthly themes, and I'm all for it.

I thrive with a bit of direction in any personal project. When photographing my own family, sometimes the open-ended nature of it can feel overwhelming. In contrast, with professional photography sessions, I always have a clear vision of what I aim to achieve. Themes provide that clarity I crave—although, admittedly, maybe not so much this past week. 😅 My motivation was definitely lacking.

And thirdly, you'll build connections with people who share your interests, motivation, and passion.

Some of the most incredible individuals I've met have been through various mom photography communities. It's a bit like dating—I'm on the lookout for other like-minded women, and the best way to find them is by diving into groups where our shared passions intersect!

I will be posting my 52 Clicks project on my website feel free to checkin. I just started - so I don’t have a lot to show for myself yet! I invite you to check in and see what I come up with.
