Best Locations for Senior Photos in Boulder, Colorado

I get asked this every year! Senior year is such a special milestone and we want to make sure you find the best location to get your senior photos. You are in luck! Locations are my speciality, especially if you are looking for beautiful mountain mama vibes!

One of the reasons I love photographing seniors in Boulder is that we have an incredible variety of landscapes within just a few minutes of each other and without getting too deep into the mountains (although, I love driving to RMNP anytime!) mountains, trails, fields, and iconic Colorado views.

Here are four of my favorite locations for senior photos in Boulder.

Shanahan Ridge

Shanahan Ridge is one of my favorite hidden gems for senior sessions.

Located at the south end of Boulder, this trail system offers beautiful open spaces, tall grasses, winding paths and incredible views of the Flatirons. At sunset, the light here becomes soft and golden, which creates that dreamy Colorado look so many seniors love.

Why seniors love Shanahan Ridge:

• Stunning mountain views
• Natural Colorado landscape
• Beautiful golden light at sunset
• Great year round due to the ponderosa pines

This location is especially perfect for seniors who love a natural, outdoorsy Colorado feel.

Chautauqua Park

Chautauqua is one of Boulder’s most iconic locations, and for good reason. The dramatic Flatiron backdrop paired with wide open fields makes it an incredible setting for senior portraits.

Throughout the year the landscape changes — spring greens, summer wildflowers, and warm golden grasses in the fall.

Why Chautauqua is a favorite:

• Iconic Flatiron views
• Gorgeous open fields
• The Classic Boulder Location
• Buildings, gardens, park as well as flatiron views

For seniors who want photos that feel unmistakably Boulder, Chautauqua is always a beautiful choice.

South Mesa Trail

South Mesa Trail is another incredible Boulder location that feels peaceful and expansive. The open landscape and sweeping mountain views create a relaxed, scenic backdrop that photographs beautifully.

One of the things I love about South Mesa is the variety within a short distance: fields, bridge, wooden fences, historic building, winding trails and dramatic mountain views.

Why it works so well for senior photos:

• Beautiful aspens, grassy fields very spacious location
• Gorgeous mountain views
• Soft sunset lighting
• Natural Colorado textures

This location is wonderful for seniors who want relaxed portraits surrounded by nature.

Planning Your Boulder Senior Photos

Senior sessions in Boulder are typically photographed during golden hour, the hour before sunset when the light becomes warm and soft.

This is when Colorado landscapes truly shine.

If you're beginning to think about senior photos, planning early helps secure the best dates during the most beautiful seasons.
