Why should I hire a family photographer?

Hey Y'all! 🌟

I bet the number one question on a mama's mind when considering hiring a family photographer is: "Why would I hire a family photographer?" We've all got cameras on our phones, and let's face it, as moms, we're already juggling a million hats—so why add one more, right? We mamas have a knack for loading ourselves up!

Now, I might be the least unbiased person to tackle this question, but I'm gonna give you my answer...

First off, let me start off with — I used to be a kindergarten, second grade, and special education teacher. I've dealt with kiddos learning to read at various levels and facing all sorts of challenges. Learning to read? Tough stuff! I created strategies for handling tricky behaviors that popped up when frustration hit – and trust me, it happened regularly. I worked with sweet students dealing with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, you name it. I was good at what I did; students responded, and I knew how to connect.

But here's the kicker—even with all my education, training, experience, and patience (not to mention being well-versed in the district's curriculum), I couldn't get my own kids to let me help with their homework. Nope, they preferred their stepdad's assistance over mine.

And you want to know a secret? I'm totally fine with that! I worked as an educator 9-5 and at home I want to be their mama, not their teacher. I'd rather remind them to shower, brush their teeth, and, truth be told, as 18 and 20-year-old young adults fresh out of high school, encourage them to get a job!

If you haven't guessed it yet, the number one reason I believe you should hire a photographer is this: You're the mama – BE the mama. Let someone else be the photographer.

My least favorite photography sessions? The ones with my own kids. They won't let me teach, and they're not keen on doing a family photo session with me either!

When you hire a family photographer, you get to just be a mama—just wear the mama hat, pick those outfits, and let someone else with experience, education, and training handle the photography.

My favorite part of being a photographer? Watching YOU as a mama ease into precious moments with your family while someone else handles the camera. You get to be fully present, connecting with your kiddos, sharing smiles, kisses and laughter, and soaking in the moment. To me, that's priceless—the times I can relax and be in the moment, when someone else takes the responsibility off my shoulders so I can share a hug instead of a lecture!

Just like when my husband steps in to help with my son's homework, and I get to make hot chocolate for both of them, creating the comforting and connected moment for my family - that is my favorite part of being a mama. When you hire someone for family photography, it's not just about capturing a moment; it's about gaining time with your family that you can fully immerse yourself in. 📸✨
