When Is the Best Time to Book Senior Photos in Colorado?

One of the most common questions I hear from parents is:

“When should we book senior photos?”

And here’s the honest answer much earlier than most people think, especially in Colorado where seasons, light, and location all play a big role.

Let’s walk through the best timing so you can plan with confidence (and without stress).

The Short Answer

In Colorado, the best time to book senior photos is late winter through early spring, even if your session will take place in summer or fall.

This gives you:

The best dates and times. There are limited dates on a photographer’s calendar, the best dates and times go first come, first serve. Booking earlier means first access to these dates and times.
Access to ideal seasonal locations. When you plan ahead we can find the best locations for your senior session. For instance, wild flowers appear for only a couple weeks at time, if you schedule early we have the flexibility to find the perfect wild flower spot. Often wildflowers are gone before many families even think about scheduling senior photos!
Time to plan without feeling rushed. It happens every year, the last minute families. And I love them, but when you are last minute the locations are busy, they are trampled and often the season is over. To get the best photos, plan ahead, I can guide you to the best location and timing based on what you want.

Colorado senior photos are often outdoors, as they should be when the landscape it as gorgeous as it is out here in Colorado. However, that means we’re working with nature and in Colorado you will need a photographer that knows the locations throughout the seasons. These are just a couple factors to consider in Colorado

Elevation changes. This can affect temperature, snow and foliage (wild flowers bloom for a couple weeks at a time in certain elevations).
Seasonal landscapes. Colorado is very seasonal, one location can be green, lush with flowers one month and have golden aspens with tall grass wheat the next. Booking earlier means getting expert advice on where and when to book depending on the style session you are looking for.

Fall is one of the most popular seasons for senior photos in Colorado. Fall has warm tones, golden light and crisp air.
